What
We Do
There are five Teen Advocates who work throughout Snohomish County helping teens access services. One of them is a multi-cultural Advocate, Spanish speaking, who works throughout the County. The advocates have offices at Cocoon Complex in Everett, but they are more often in their cars, at schools, agencies, or other locations in their local territories. The advocates meet teens wherever it is most convenient for the teen, whether it be school, home, or a local restaurant.
Once a teen calls an advocate requesting services, an appointment is scheduled. In emergency situations, the advocate may be able to meet the teen immediately. The advocate works with the teen to understand the teen's needs and to set goals for their time together. The advocate can help with a wide range of services and basic needs, including housing and shelter, food, clothing, transportation, school, jobs, and providing emergency provisions such as hygiene items. They can assist the youth with accessing community resources such as drug and alcohol or mental health counseling. Legal advocacy for CHINS/ARY hearings as well as support through the justice system’s processes is another way an Advocate can assist the teen. The advocates are adults who also serve as role models for the teens, help them build healthy relationships, get their basic needs met, and connect them to services. When appropriate, advocates also work with the teen's family and other support persons and service providers.
