Cocoon House & the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center: A New Space for Youth, Families, and Services in South Snohomish County

Cocoon House is proud to join the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center (LNC), a 40,000 sq ft space bringing preschool, after-school programs, health services, and youth homelessness support to our community. This project is led by Volunteers of America Western Washington (VOAWW), who are building and overseeing the LNC to ensure it effectively serves children, youth, and families in south Snohomish County.

Cocoon House + Lynnwood Neighborhood Center: Meeting youth where they are

Cocoon House is proud to be an official partner in the new Lynnwood Neighborhood Center (LNC), a community space designed to deliver coordinated services to families, children, and youth across south Snohomish County. The LNC will bring together nonprofits, early learning, youth development programs, and clinical services under one roof — creating easier access to the supports young people need to be safe, stable, and thriving. VOAWW is leading this initiative, ensuring the design and programs meet community needs and provide high-quality oversight for all partner organizations.

Why this matters for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness

Too many young people and families in our region face barriers to housing stability, mental health services, and childcare. By joining services — from early childhood education and after-school programs to health and community resource navigation — the LNC reduces friction for families who need multiple supports, and creates new pathways for Cocoon House to reach youth earlier and more effectively. The LNC is expected to serve thousands of community members annually and will include preschool classrooms, a Boys & Girls Club site, clinic space, and flexible community rooms that nonprofit partners will use to deliver programs. VOAWWLynnwood VOAWW’s oversight ensures these services are well-coordinated and meet the highest standards for community impact.

What Cocoon House will do at the LNC

At the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center, Cocoon House will:

  • Provide targeted outreach and prevention services for youth and families at risk of homelessness.

  • Offer case navigation, referrals to housing and employment programs, and on-site engagement to connect youth with long-term resources.

  • Partner with ECEAP and after-school providers to support families, create stable care options, and reduce pressures that can lead to housing instability.

Cocoon House’s presence at the LNC expands our reach into south county neighborhoods where families need accessible, trauma-informed support. With VOAWW’s leadership, Cocoon House and other partners are aligning with a unified vision for youth and family services.

The LNC by the numbers (what we know so far)

  • Size: ~40,000 square feet with flexible community space and preschool classrooms.

  • Design & sustainability: The project aims for high environmental standards and includes modern community-oriented design features.

  • Community impact: The LNC is projected to serve tens of thousands of neighbors each year through a mix of ECEAP preschool slots, after-school programs, clinic services, and community resource access. Local coverage and VOA materials report community reach in the tens of thousands annually. VOAWW will oversee operations to maximize community reach and ensure the space meets the evolving needs of children and youth.

How the LNC complements Cocoon House’s mission

Our mission is to break the cycle of youth homelessness through outreach, housing, prevention, education, and employment. VOAWW’s oversight of the LNC enhances this mission by providing a coordinated, high-quality space where Cocoon House can deliver services more effectively. Their leadership ensures that early-touch points with families, stable childcare access, and centralized referral networks are optimized, so youth don’t fall through gaps between systems.
