Prevention

Cocoon's Prevention Services are built around the recognition of the intersection between youth homelessness and family problems.  In 2007, The National Alliance to End Homelessness recognized Cocoon's prevention program as a best practice, one of just a few programs in the country to focus on youth homelessness from a family systems perspective.

The goal of prevention services is to keep families intact and youth off the streets by addressing underlying family issues that often lead to a teen's becoming homeless or engaging in other risky behaviors.  Research demonstrates that family issues ar ethe major causes of teen homelessness.  Cocoon's Prevention Services targets the parent/guardians of the teens, rather than the teens themselves.
